Coming to Japan, the myth.
I hate foreign people in Japan. I really do. In fact, a lot of my foreign friends also hate all the other foreign people in Japan. Many of those foreign people hate other foreign people in Japan and sometimes they might even hate me. Should you come to Japan? Well, the real question is why would you come to Japan. Is it to increase the hate? Find out.
Tokyo Gore Police
Another movie entry, another movie that leaves you wandering the room in your underwear wishing that there were things you could erase directly from your brain or you could distill other parts into a liquid form and mainline it. Welcome to the over the top world of Tokyo Gore Police.
Naked Man Festival 09
Every year in the town I live in thousands of Japanese men strip down to traditional underwear, get way too drunk and run around the streets. Then they set up poles for each other to climb and then fall off. It is one messed up day.
Tobacco Cards Turn Teens Into Criminals and Hookers
Smoking is quite prominent in Japan and it is near impossible to go out for an entertaining evening without catching whiff of some tobacco smoke. There is a current non-smoking movement with many train platforms and public buildings posting no smoking signs. Even some restaurants and cafes are making enclosed smoking sections or banning smoking all together.
The Gundam Experience
We talk to our friend Dodzi about what it is to step into the cockpit (cock) of a Gundam, head into the virtual reality of Japan and beat the virtual living shit out of other people with glowing sticks and things that go BOOM.
That's right, I said BOOM.

'hounen matsuri,' better known to the foreigners living in japan as the 'penis festival' is a crop fertility festival held annually in order to ensure good luck with future crop harvests. the festival is held in different locations and at different times throughout japan. this particular 'penis festival' was held in komaki, aichi, a small town north of nagoya.
Kusanagi Arrest
If you live in Japan you have heard of SMAP. You might not know their names, I don't. Recently one of them was in the news. All over the news, because he was in a park, drunk and all nakeded up. The immediate fallout and resulting media storm in Japan has been an interesting reveal of the Japanese media machine.
Movie Madness: Oneechanbara
Video game movies get a pretty rough deal. That might be because most movies based on a videeo game suck really hard. This movie is based on a video game and it sucks really hard. I don't really know where to go with that. I guess it supports the idea that some stereotypes might be true and you hate Peruvians.
Shiso Pepsi & Coke with Green Tea
Peter gives up the health benefits of not drinking terrible things so he can drink some things that may or may not be terrible. There is only one way to find out. Also, see Peter not want to drink something. Fun!
HIkanNinja @ Ozon
The night consisted of a million acts, the batteries on my camera gave out after about 15. I guess it just couldn't handle how real it gets on the cold streets of Nagoya. Turn up the volume and get ready for some air humping.
Anime Cosplay Summit 2009
Eric braved the heart of Nagoya when no one else would. he saw the rain and said "This will not stop the intrepid." And what is better than a cosplayer than a wet cosplayer? He knew the heat and said "Only the weak would not don an oversized Gundam suit on this day." He felt the extreme humidity and thought "My ass shall sweat."
And lo, it was so.
Blood The Last Vampire Live Action Movie Madness
Blood the Last Vampire is one of those animations that you ask people if they have seen and if they say yes you can then assume they are a huge nerd. Also you can assume you will lose the next 30 minutes of your life to listening to that nerd talk about the animation. Those nerdy kids have grown up enough to make their own movies, so one did.

All the most recent news worth reading on Japan broken down into easily digestible chunks for those drug / media addled minds who are incapable of reading full length articles. Also, totally biased commentary which I will immediately claim as unbiased reporting.
Kasen Kankyo Rakuen, Gifu
Do you like feet? Do you like my feet? Would you like to see my feet get eaten? Probably for the only time in your life you have the chance to see me dip my feet into a pool where some of the most vicious animals known to man try to devour me whole. Luckily they are all too small to do anything more than give me the scrubbing I needed.

Nate gives Kirin's stout a go. In the spirit of a Japanese made Irish beer, enjoy the sounds of the Japanese "Irish Punk" band, The Cherry Cokes.

In & Around Nagoya: Halloween 2009 Guide
Everyone and their mother has at least one Halloween themed event going on this month. By no means is the following list comprehensive, but it should be enough to get you started. So there is no reason for you to sit around and contemplate loneliness when you could dress up like the opposite sex and contemplate loneliness in a public space with lots of other people.
Hello Kitty Product Round Up
While we all know that the corporate king of merchandising is Hello Kitty which has plastered that vacuous face over every single product it possibly could there are still products that are surprising when we come across them. Enclosed in this entry are some of the odder iterations of Hello Kitty products, many of which I assume are not officially licensed items.
HikanNinja News Japan
A more mixed bag than the recent arrests addition. Running the gambit of news so you can pretend to be informed without actually ever looking through the news for the bits that are interesting to read. Thats what we do, the work, for you, so you look cool.
Japanese Pranks
Recently the internet has been all agog over a television prank where some comedians are led to believe that a sniper has shot everyone else in the room. Like everyone else, I thought it was horrible, but I watched it, then showed it to other people and tried not to laugh. Japan has a long history of pretty mean pranks, here's some found drifting around the internet.

Pepsi Azuki Taste Test
Peter gets his new Pepsi on, this time based on the red bean that graces the insides of a lot of things you don't usually expect red bean to be in, like Pepsi, I guess. Also, in order to pretend like we care about giving a fair and balanced view a bunch of other people give their opinions.
HikanNinja News
All the news fit to read, summarized into nugget sized bits. Nuggets are made by putting a chicken on a spit and spinning it so fast all the meat stick to the side of the bin surrounding it. The meat is then scraped off an made into nuggets. Thats what I do with the news.
The Japanese Girls Guide
There are few things easier to provide than advice. It can be crap but people feel like their advice is always more valuable and more accurate than anyone else's advice that has come before. Let me give you some advice on that, don't listen to anyone. Ironic, isn't it? I found this online guide and decided to do a little exploring to see if the advice would be worth the 2,000 yen they are asking.
